The Somatic Stitch:
A Therapeutic Knitting workshop for those affected by Stress, Anxiety or Trauma
With Rebecca Bieraugel
Can a single stitch rewire your response to stress?
Step into a space where ancient craft meets modern neuroscience. The Somatic Stitch is a curated workshop designed to turn the rhythmic act of knitting into a powerful tool for neurological grounding.
By utilising the principles of bilateral stimulation (the same "left-right" processing used in EMDR therapy), we use the weighted movement of needles to quiet the amygdala and anchor the nervous system. This isn't just about making a scarf; it’s about creating a "safety blanket" for your brain.
We’ll also provide an introduction to Advanced somatic EMDR therapy and how that works as a growing popular treatment for Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and also for Chronic trauma, auto immune conditions and burnout.
The Experience:
The Science of Flow: Discover how alternating hand movements may "unstick" traumatic loops and lower cortisol.
Sensory Architecture: Work with colourful, tactile materials to ground your senses.
The Portable Anchor: Begin a "pocket project" designed to be a tactile reset button for your daily life.
Modern Mindfulness: Transition from "fight or flight" into a restorative, creative flow.
Who can attend?
No prior knitting experience is required. We provide all materials—just bring your desire to find healing, one stitch at a time. Come for the craft, stay for the calm, and leave with a lifelong tool for emotional resilience.
Investment: £45 including your knitting needles and wool
