Naturopathic Nutritional Therapy

What is Naturopathic Nutritional Therapy?

We have all heard of the phrase 'you are what you eat', and that's because what we eat is used by the body to make us, to create new cells, new bodily tissues, and organs.  If we eat rubbish, we feel, and look rubbish. Simple.  Naturopathic Nutritional therapy isn't just about what we eat and drink though, it also considers at an individual’s inherited factors, their environment, lifestyle, attitudes, and psychological and emotional state, especially stress, when assessing overall health and the most appropriate programme for healing.  Stress in all its forms is a major cause of health issues and chronic disease because it stops the systems within the body from working properly.  You could be eating a well-balanced diet, but if you live life in a perpetual state of stress, you are undoing all that good work.

Naturopathic Nutritional Therapy takes a holistic approach to restoring health using therapies that support the whole person, not just the symptoms, because the whole body is involved in the healing process.  Naturopathic Nutritional Therapy starts with repairing the foundations of health using the healing power of food, water, light, and movement, so that body has the capacity to heal itself once obstacles to recovery are removed.

Naturopathic Nutritional Therapy supports the self-healing process through diet and lifestyle changes that get the body working properly again rather than medicating symptoms.  It also assesses the movement and progression of disease helping to identify and treat the root cause of illness.

Naturopathic Nutritional Therapy can help with most health concerns as a primary approach, but it can also work alongside and support conventional medical treatment with many people finding that by changing their diet and lifestyle, other health concerns diminish as the whole body begins to work more effectively.

Naturopathic Nutritional Therapy and Nutritional Medicine can help with many common complaints, many with their roots in poor digestive health or hormonal instability, including:

Digestive problems incl IBS, pain, bloating, wind Blood sugar irregularities Food sensitivities, intolerances, and allergies Low energy, low mood, fatigue, and chronic fatigue Skin issues and diseases

Hormonal problems incl. PMT, Fertility, Menopause Feeling unwell with no known or obvious cause Weight loss / gain Maintaining and protecting health

What to Expect

Get to the root cause of symptoms

Understanding why you have developed your symptoms and why they have progressed immediately reduces anxiety because it takes away the mystery and fear and puts you back in control of your recovery.

Repair the foundations of health

A personalised Nutritional Medicine programme begins by repairing the foundations of health, rather than medicating or suppressing symptoms, using the healing power of food, water, movement, and light so that body has the capacity to heal itself once obstacles to recovery are removed.

Restore energy levels, vitality, and resilience

As you re-establish your health foundation, anxiety reduces, energy levels increase, and positivity and optimism return because once the body is able to clean, nourish, and heal itself, everything begins to flow and our vitality and resilience is restored.

Your consultation includes:

  • Full naturopathic case taking covering your current health and goals, past medical history from birth to the present day, and the health of your family looking back two generations. Muscle Response Testing (kinesiology) to check for imbalances and intolerances if appropriate.

  • Tongue, nail, and iris assessment if appropriate.

  • Bach Flower remedy prescription if appropriate.

  • After taking your case I will explain the connection between current symptoms, inherited factors, treatment of previous illnesses, emotional events, diet and lifestyle, and suggest dietary and lifestyle changes and naturopathic techniques that can be used to support healing so that you leave the clinic with a way forward.  We will discuss what is realistic and achievable to ensure that your programme is practical for you.

  • Please allow up to 2 hours for your first consultation.

Prior to your consultation:

I will ask you to complete a health questionnaire and to keep a 7-day food diary to record your typical daily diet.  The questionnaire goes back two generations and covers your current health and past medical history from birth to the present day and questions on every body system.

The questionnaire and food diary form an integral part of the naturopathic case taking and therefore need to be returned to me at least 7 days before your appointment so that I can review your case and prepare for your consultation.

After the consultation:

I will summarise our discussion in an email and provide you with a plan of action (valid for a period of 4-8 weeks depending on your symptoms) tailored to your individual needs along with additional resources such as recipes, recommended reading, links to relevant research papers if appropriate, helpful website links and handouts relevant to your case.
