Therapist Spotlight: Kasia Baxendale

In this special series our in-house therapists here at The Secret Space take the opportunity to tell us more about themselves and what brought them to where they are.

In this blog we introduce you to Ayurvedic Practitioner, Kasia Baxendale.

How long have you been at the Secret Space and what brought you here?

I’ve been at The Secret Space for just over two years now. I was drawn to the calm, nurturing environment and the strong sense of community, which aligns beautifully with the way I practise Ayurveda.

Tell us about your career journey so far? How long have you been practising?

Before becoming an Ayurvedic practitioner, I worked as a teacher. Teaching helped me develop a deep appreciation for patience, communication, and meeting people where they are — skills that naturally carried into my Ayurvedic practice. I’ve now been practising for over three years, supporting clients through personalised consultations and treatments.

What are your qualifications?

I was very fortunate to complete my Ayurvedic training with Hale Pule, as well as studying in India with Dr Hebbar and his team in Mangalore. This training prepared me not only to counsel clients and offer personalised diet and lifestyle recommendations, but also to prescribe herbs, provide treatments, and guide clients through the pinnacle of Ayurvedic healing — the Panchakarma cleanse.

What does a typical session with you look like?

A typical session begins with a 60–75 minute consultation. Clients prepare by completing a detailed intake form, which allows me to gain a holistic understanding of their health, emotions, lifestyle, and symptoms.

In Ayurveda, we look for the root cause of imbalance rather than simply addressing symptoms. During the consultation, we explore these patterns together, and I educate clients on how to support healing and restore balance. This always includes diet and lifestyle recommendations and may also involve herbs and suggested treatments.

If the session is online, clients receive a recording to refer back to. After the consultation, I send a follow-up email outlining the first steps and key recommendations.

How long is a typical recommended course?

This varies from client to client, depending on the severity of symptoms and the level of support needed. Follow-up consultations are always recommended to deepen understanding and refine guidance. Some clients prefer monthly sessions, while others work independently for a few months with ongoing support.

Herbs are usually taken for between three and twelve months, depending on the individual. Some treatments can be one-off sessions, while others are most effective when taken as a course. Ayurveda is a deeply individualised and holistic system of medicine.

How do you create a supportive, safe space for clients?

Ayurveda recognises each person as completely unique, which often allows clients to feel truly seen and heard — sometimes for the first time in their health journey. Many clients share that it finally makes sense to view their symptoms through the interconnected lens of body, mind, lifestyle, and emotions.

Ayurveda means “the science of life,” and many people describe their experience as coming home — learning how to care for their body and mind in a way that feels natural and sustainable, especially in today’s fast-paced world.

Do you have a specific philosophy or mantra that you live by?

I see Ayurveda not as a trend, but as a way of living — and I genuinely enjoy sharing it. I practise Ayurveda daily; without that lived experience, I would simply be passing on knowledge rather than the true wisdom of the practice.

Tell us something surprising about what you do.

One surprising aspect of my work is that much of it happens through conversation and truly understanding the person, rather than focusing solely on symptoms. Ayurvedic consultations explore why something is happening, not just what is happening.

Many treatments feel like spa experiences but are deeply therapeutic, even when they seem subtle. Clients are often fascinated by tongue diagnosis, which can reveal signs of imbalance, stress, digestion, and more. Ayurveda is built on small, sustainable changes that integrate easily into modern life.

Some of the things Ayurveda can help you with include:

  • Stress & Burnout

  • Anxiety & Mental Wellbeing

  • Hormonal Balance & Menopause

  • Digestive Health & Gut Balance

  • Sleep & Energy

  • Weight & Metabolism

  • Fertility & Reproductive Health (including PCOS)

  • MS & Neurological Support

  • Depression & Emotional Health

What’s the most rewarding thing about what you do?

The most rewarding part is seeing clients regain their health, confidence, and spark — watching them step back into their power and relearn how to live and age well. It’s important to emphasise that this is not a quick fix, but a meaningful journey.

What does life look like for you outside of work?

I’m a mum and a wife, as well as a dog mum to a fox red Labrador. I spend a lot of time in nature walking the dog, and I love travelling and cooking.

Your favourite thing about the Secret Space

I love how The Secret Space looks at night, especially in winter with the twinkling lights — and, of course, the sense of community.

Tell us a fun fact about you!

A fun fact about me is that my journey into Ayurveda began through my own healing. Using Ayurvedic wisdom helped restore balance and harmony in my life, particularly with digestion and hormones.
