Teacher Spotlight: Claire Stone

In this special series our teachers here at The Secret Space take the opportunity to tell us more about themselves and what brought them to where they are.

In this blog we introduce you to Claire Stone.

How long have you been at the Secret Space and what brought you here?

I’ve been here for around 15 years!

Tell us about your yoga journey so far. How long have you been practising? What drew you to train as a teacher?

I started my yoga journey 20 years ago. I was taught by Buddhist Monks in the Bahamas, where a Monk told me it’s easy to practice yoga on Paradise island… go and spread our teachings in the West. That’s what I have been doing ever since.

Where and when did you do your training?

As I mentioned above, I was fortunate enough to do my intial training in the Bahamas at the Sivanada School on Paradise island, which was a wonderful experinece. I continued with my studies in Austria, Miami, india and Scotland, and, of course, in everyday life.

It’s important to remember that training is only the beginning though. It has been the philosophy of yoga that has been my best teacher.

What does a typical class with you look like?

A slow flow, maybe with some restorative poses. Always Shavasana - this is where the magic happens.

How do you create a supportive, safe space for clients?

I always begin classes by asking my cilents if they have any injuries and if they do or don’t want to be adjusted. I pride myself on leading friendly and open classes where all levels are welcome. My classes aren’t a place for an ego and people can rest in child’s pose or Shavasana at any time.

Do you have a specific philosophy or mantra that you live by?

Be the best version of YOURSELF - that’s all any of us have!

Most rewarding thing about what you do?

Holding a safe place for people, allowing emotions to surface and supporting people in that space.

What does life look like for you outside of teaching?

Designing logos, record covers and book covers, as well as being a busy Mum of 2.

Your favourite thing about the Secret Space

The students!

Tell us a fun fact about you aside from your yoga!

I am prone to sleep walking in the middle of the night!
