Acupuncture
Jody and Kerry run the Acupuncture clinic at The Secret Space. Acupuncture is a very gentle treatment used to help a whole range of conditions, from musculoskeletal pain to gynaecological disorders and mental health. After an initial consultation, which will include feeling your pulse, very fine needles are inserted into specific points along the energy channels. The needles are thought to bring energy back into balance and thereby activate your body’s own healing response. Some scientists and acupuncturists believe that acupuncture stimulates nerve and muscle tissue and that this may be responsible for any beneficial effect. It is common to experience a deep sense of relaxation and a sense of well-being after having acupuncture.
Fertility Acupuncture
Chinese medicine believes that fertility acupuncture can target specific problems, or just optimise health and reduce stress. Studies have also shown that it is effective in treating common symptoms of pregnancy, such as back pain, insomnia and constipation, and there is evidence to suggest that acupuncture can reduce the need for medical induced labour.
For Back Pain
Jody and Kerry see many people for back pain, acute and chronic. Traditional acupuncture has been used for over 2,000 years to alleviate back pain in Eastern cultures. It is only in recent years here in the West that acupuncture has begun to feature more prominently in mainstream healthcare. It has also been recommended that the NHS prescribe Acupuncture as a treatment for back pain.
Acupuncture for Migraines
There have been some large, high-quality controlled trials of acupuncture for migraine in recent years. The results of the more recent reviews are quite consistent: acupuncture is significantly better than no treatment/basic care for managing migraine, and appears to be at least as effective as prophylactic drug therapy, with few contraindications or unpleasant side effects.
